We have a cat now and the litter box is in the (finished) basement and I can't smell it. It doesn't smell like a basement, I love it! Its cheaper to run than a (newly bought large) regular dehumidifier, which by the way I found out from the manufacturer was not designed to run all the time. I couldn't understand why my basement was so hot. I also highly recommend the condensate pump (it eliminates the need for emptying the bucket when it fills). I don't have to worry when I go away.
