How Do Carpets Get Dirty?

Asphalt, bacteria, car exhaust, dirt, dust, earth, food particles, fungus, germs, gravel, grease, grime, grit, hair industrial waste, lint, (DEEP BREATH) mud, pet stains, pollens, pollutants, PLUS all the living creatures like dust mites and critters that live and breed in your carpet. With all these reasons and more it is the nature of your carpet to get dirt. But how?
The topic of dirty carpets and how they get that way is something that Du Pont de Nemours has done extensive research on. DuPont's studies indicate that 80% of the soil that gets into a carpet is from dirty shoe soles. I'm sure everyone knows someone who yells "take off your shoes!" whenever they step foot in their house. This person probably has the cleanest carpets around.
That soil that is on the bottom of the shoe soles is deposited onto the clean carpet until the carpet actually becomes as dirty as the shoe sole. The other 20% comes from the liquid based spills and the oily, smoggy particles from the atmosphere. This 100% makes for a sticky, matting, soil-binding problem.
You can see why with all of this junk getting dragged into your home and onto your carpets why indoor air quality is an issue. Have your carpets professionally cleaned regularly and maybe take your shoes off at the door and your home will be healthier in the long run.
