6 Costly Misconceptions About Carpet Cleaning
Posted on Mon, Nov 07, 2011 @ 10:28 AM
Misconception #1: You should wait as long as possible before cleaning your carpet.
No! Dirt is abrasive and every time you step on your carpet, you grind that dirt into the carpet fibers. This cuts your carpet, just as if you used a knife, which causes your carpet to wear out faster. A dirty carpet will not last as long as a clean carpet.
Misconception #2: The only reason to clean carpets is to remove dirt.
No! Outdoor air contains pollens, fungus, bacteria, air pollution, cigarette smoke, car exhaust and tons of other chemicals. When you walk into your home you carry those chemicals with you, and they end up in your carpet. If you have allergies or other breathing problems indoor air quality could be the reason why.
Misconception #3: One method of carpet cleaning is as good as another.
No! The dry cleaning methods do not rinse your carpet at all and leave a residue. Another way of saying this is that they only clean your carpets halfway. The most effective way to clean a carpet is hot water extraction, and following the carpet cleaning procedures.
Misconception #4: Having the right equipment is all a company needs to clean your carpets properly.
No! Just because you have the right equipment doesn't mean the company knows how to use it, which is why you need to choose your carpet cleaner carefully. Choose an experienced professional carpet cleaning company.
Misconception #5: The company that offers the lowest price is the company you should hire.
No! I have seen more problems come up from this misconception alone. There are two main things that happen with this. First is that you are paying for a cheap service. They may be skipping steps and not thoroughly cleaning your carpet. They will look good when the company leaves but will be back to dirty in only a few days. Second the price advertised may not be the price you pay. Many companies have a variety of add-ons once they get in the door.
Misconception #6 Any honest carpet cleaning company should be able to give you an exact price quote over the phone.
Carpet cleaning companies almost never give an exact price over the phone. Instead it is usually priced by the square foot and is based on the type of carpet and upholstery you need cleaned. If you want to know how much the cleaning will be you need to know the exact square footage you need cleaned.
