How to Get Rid of Pet Urine Spots

pet urine spotsUrine stains are tricky for a typical homeowner to remediate. The composition of urine mirrors animals water needs, therefore pet urine is usually highly concentrated which makes it even harder to remove. Another issue with pet urine spots is that Buster is not just peeing in one spot. If he is letting it go inside the house, chances are he let's it go all over the place (behind the couch, in your bedroom, etc.).

The main problems that pet urine creates are odor, color (stains), and bacteria.  Normally pet urine is sterile until it reaches mid-urethra. The urethra of dogs and cats contains a resident population of bacteria. If the urine is allowed to sit, the odor will be extremely strong and could possibly develop bacteria or fungal growth. If your pet does tend to frequent one particular spot then the carpet and sub-flooring could be damaged. This could also create a situation where your nose becomes desensitized and the smell could only appear when the carpet gets wet and damp, even though it had always been there.

In order to fix all these problems in your carpet there are a few steps a professional carpet cleaner must take. For the stains the best approach is to use reducing agents. For the deodorizing the best process is cleaning with a slightly acidic cleaner and very good deep extraction paired with chemicals to kill the bacteria.

In case Spot leaves a spot of his own...
